Austrian fashion designers Lena Krampf and Ida Steixner present the new collection of their label Meshit for the forthcoming Autumn/ Winter 2013 season. Lena and Ida drew inspiration from the work of Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki, whose films were set in the working class environment, involving everyday life drama and the commingling of high and popular culture. The laconic, bizarre and minimalistic Kaurismäki films focus on workers, unemployed people and outcasts.
The hint of old classic movies and rock n' roll inspires the aesthetics of the camera works. In Meshit's designs you can find these influences and styles: working clothes, denim, jackets and dungaree style dresses versus classic cut coats, trench coats, pleated trousers and sweaters made of knit or fur. Zippers, patches, pocket details, fur and plush complete the look. Meshit's color scheme is also in consonance with Kaurismäki's aesthetics; centered on turquoise, mustard, navy blue, red and black.
