MÊHLÊ AW14 Moving Forward

Maja Mehle and Miha Fabio Kalan present the AW14 collection of their fashion brand MÊHLÊ. ‘Moving Forward’ pays homage to Sarajevo and the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Winter Olympics, the only one held in the former Yugoslavia. Inspired by the contrast between the glorious sports event and the devastating siege of Sarajevo a few years later.

‘Moving Forward’ is an ode to Sarajevo and its people, who despite of the horrendous conditions, never gave up on hope and managed to retain their dark humor and creativity. MÊHLÊ is originally from a winter sports nation and Slovenia’s success in Sarajevo is a happy childhood memory.

As children the duo of designers loved the official games mascot ‘Vucko’, found in some of the collection’s pieces, and which they have embraced as their own for the AW14 season. The collection juxtaposes the spirit of togetherness that such an event creates, with the complete devastation that war can bring.

The collection mixes rich burgundy red, navy and taupe seen in a range of oversized coats, bomber jackets and relaxed technical outerwear in innovative fabrics. ‘Moving Forward’ is a continuation of chic soft separates and dropped waist pleated dresses in performance textiles exploration.
