Get to know David Marinos…
How did your bringing up influence your art?
In all the countries I’ve grown up, have great talent and lots of amazing artists. From a young age I could adapt to the culture of the country and assimilate some of the art into my thoughts and energy. I love the different styles of each individual country and it always inspired me.
Where do you find your inspiration from?
Usually I’m inspired by my memories and things I have experienced through my life. If not that, then I go to libraries and museums. Inspiration doesn’t come often for me, but when it does I try to take full advantage of it and go to greater heights.
How do you see the present situation for freelance artists at the moment?
I think we are unrecognized from a major percent of the people on this planet. Sometimes we are “used” for our skills and then forgotten, that’s why the artist needs to become more than just a freelance artist. He/She needs to become a leader in the way people see and think. Most freelance artists are stuck in the same place and always wonder why it’s not going for them. An artist must know how to evolve and provoke those around him.
Tell us about your inspiration for this project (WEARESELECTERS x David Marinos).
My inspiration was drawn from the brands and models themselves. I tried to complement the composition with colors and different textures. The clothing also gave me a sense of direction in the style and emotion. I’ve remixed the garments with the idea of creating a new image, almost as giving rebirth to the photograph and the clothing.
What are you doing right now? which projects are you developing?
Well for now I’m very busy with client work and a few collaborations.
Is the future bright?
No. The future isn’t bright… and will not be in a stage of good or bad. The future is neutral and subtle. Maybe the future is unpredictable or maybe it will just repeat itself.
How would you define your art?
Undefined. I still have many things to do. The public may define my Artwork however they like. I’m here to create Art and explore the unknown and create the unknown.
Who is David Marinos? The artist and the man?
The man is the shadow of David Marinos, I simply live my life to find that it will be mixed into my work. The man follows the creator. David Marinos creates Art for those who are like the man, a shadow.
We Are Selecters, selects what we love. If you were to select a contemporary artist who would it be?
Good question. There are lots of great contemporary artists out there. My choice for We Are Selecters would be either Brian Vu or Pretty Puke.
And in terms of music, what do you usually ‘select’ to listen on a daily basis?
It really depends on my mood. Usually Jazz, Rock, Instrumental. In other days I usually prefer silence over music.
And in fashion?
My fashion inspirations are: Raf Simons, Saint Laurent, Jil Sander, Rick Owens, Martin Margiela, Hugo Boss, Hedi Slimane, Damir Doma, Hood By Air, Alexander Wang, Fred Perry, Jakob Hetzer, ASSK, Alexander McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto and Karl Lagerfeld.
What do you have installed for the near future? any collaborations with fashion brands or artists?
