Motoguo SS16 - But do not blame Lulu
Kuala Lumpur based, artistically driven designer Moto Guo is at it again… for the Spring/Summer 2016 season, his ‘But do not blame Lulu’ offering is a fragment of the designer’s own imagination... a reincarnation of individuals who were forced to face the harsh realities of life, equipped only with themselves.
Lulu is jaded, confused and facing an identity crisis. Lulu personifies the awkwardness built up when one incorporates foreign elements into their unique self. Lulu sees an unsettling mood linger between her and those who have had a preconceived notion of her. In some ways Guo is Lulu, Lulu is Guo.
The Spring/Summer 2016 season sees a contemporary sporty line with a 1970s vibe. ‘But do not blame Lulu’ has a modernistic look washed over with nostalgia.
Moto Guo takes us on an overwhelming experience as he playfully applies lines, distorted quilts, uneven pleats and his aptly named ‘octopus suction cups’ pleat
on seemingly unassuming silhouettes inspired by sporty jersey t-shirts. Fabrics such as velvet, raincoat nylon, suiting and mesh were employed, most of which were not present on his previous collections.
