Self Made by Gianfranco Villegas Spring/Summer 2016 collection, WH(Y) is about today’s younger generation and their mundane, everyday life. Kids that live life at the spread of the moment, not caring much about tomorrow(s), never asking WH(Y).
For WH(Y), Gianfranco drew inspiration from his personal experiences in Paris; from shooting basketballs in playgrounds and skate-boarding to daily routines like grocery shopping, taking the metro, partying and clubbing. WH(Y) was also designed inspired on the work of photographers such as John Kilar, Daniel King, Gorsad, and street art by Korakrit and Tianzhou Chen.
Gianfranco describes this collection as Volume #1, as if it was an album… where each garment is supposed to be a song expressing a different tone. For WH(Y) the designer relied on handmade techniques, such as hand painting, embroidery, and handmade patches mixing leather, premium cotton and silk cotton, to technical waterproof fabrics, silver zippers and buttons, polished with raw cuts, maintaining the authenticity of a young, relaxed, streetwear brand.
